The Socialization Trap

- by Rick Boyer
Reviewed by Vicki Bentley, mom of 17 homeschooled students, speaker, and author.

While most of us like to think that schools exist to teach children the "Three R's" over a twelve-year period, did you realize "John Holt has found that it only takes about thirty hours for a person to learn to read"...So what is the purpose of the other 11½ years of compulsory "education"?

Read the rest of the review and order your copy today!
Through the end of the week, you can still take advantage of the special March pricing of $6 (members)/$7 (non-members), plus shipping. That's a savings of more than 20%!

Speaker Hosts & Hostesses Needed
Every speaker needs a good host or hostess. Help your favorite speaker feel at home by assisting them before, during, and after their workshop. All you need is the ability to make sure the speakers have what they need (you tell us if they don't), hand out evaluation forms, read a brief introduction, and count the number of people in your room. It's that simple. Please e-mail speakerhost@heav.org if you'd like to volunteer and we'll send you a list of available workshops!

Turn Empty Boxes into Cash!
Did you know that Box Top labels are found on a variety of food boxes and cans, and that each one is worth 10 cents? You can turn those labels into cash for your homeschool support group--and for HEAV! Now 10 cents might not sound like a lot, but it adds up fast! Thanks to those of you who submitted labels or shopped through the Box Tops Marketplace, HEAV received a check for $3,500 a few months ago. Those little labels can support homeschooling in a BIG way.

Next time you go to throw away a food box or can, stop and make sure you're not throwing money away!
