Raising Sons and Entrepreneurial Leaders-
A Message from Anne Miller
Three weeks ago I read a note from Kevin
Swanson, executive director of Christian Home
Educators of Colorado, and thought, "Does
this ever describe my 17-year-old son,
Micah." Kevin wrote:
"My son Daniel--now 17 years old--is fiercely
competitive and has a love for doing business
and earning money. I'm thinking that he'll
probably be an entrepreneur of some sort, and
as he grows, he's getting more aggressive in
his business pursuits. But like many young
homeschooled students, he's not quite ready
to make it on his own in the business world.
He needs more training if he's going to be
successful down the road."
At the time, my husband, Micah, and I were
reviewing business courses and degree
programs seeking the Lord's direction for
Micah's training and education. Passionate
about business, Micah has been negotiating
contracts, hiring and managing crews of young
men, buying more than $30,000 worth of
equipment and tools, and developing marketing
strategy for his yard-care business--Micah's
Clippings--for more than two years, but we
all saw the need for more in-depth
instruction and business knowledge.
I quickly printed off Kevin's note, which
included information on a business and
entrepreneurial training event his son will
be attending in March, and showed it to my
husband and son.
This training event, offered by New Venture
Lab, is a six-day Basic Entrepreneurship
Training Course designed to equip Christian
men to be successful entrepreneurs. Run by
Wade Myers, a five-time CEO, Harvard MBA
graduate, and U.S. Army combat veteran who
founded or cofounded more than 20 companies
and has served on numerous boards including
that of a $850 million investment firm, the
course looks fabulous.
Long story made short: Micah will be joining
Kevin Swanson's son, Daniel, at the Venture
Academy next month! Maybe you, too, have
budding entrepreneurs who would benefit from
this training? If so, take a look at what's
offered and if you decide to send them, be
sure they say "Hi!" to Daniel and Micah!
