Homeschooling is among the top ten of more than 200 significant trends that will have an impact on future society, says The Trends Journal, world leader in trends analysis and forecasting. The Home Educators Association of Virginia (HEAV) invites those interested in learning more about homeschooling to attend four free introductory workshops on Thursday, June 5, 2008, at the 25th Annual HEAV State Convention & Educational Fair. These workshops give parents a chance to understand homeschooling and how it works-all at no charge. Registration for the workshops begins at 1:30 p.m.
The workshops begin with "Intro to Homeschooling." In this fact-filled workshop, Yvonne Bunn, a long-time educator with experience in both the school and homeschool setting, will give parents history, statistics, and information they need to decide if homeschooling is right for their family. Yvonne will also be sharing the nuts-and-bolts of beginning homeschooling in "How to Begin: What You Really Need to Know," and demystifying the homeschool law in "The Law, Evaluations, & Testing." In the last workshop, "Choosing Curriculum," Vicki Bentley, HEAV's curriculum counselor (and the mom of 17 homeschooled students) shares the secrets to mapping out a successful course of study.
Following the workshops, attendees will be given a complimentary pass allowing them to tour the 295+ booth exhibit hall for the remainder of the evening. This gives parents a chance to see the latest in homeschooling materials, as well as to ask questions of the knowledgeable exhibitors.
Anne Miller, HEAV president and a homeschool mom of eight, encourages parents to take advantage of this free offer. "Here's a great no-risk opportunity to explore an effective educational option and decide if it's right for your family."
