Washington’s Birthday was a beautiful, sunny day in Richmond for February’s Day at the Capitol. Hundreds of parents and students met their legislators and viewed the hustle and bustle of a day at the General Assembly. During the afternoon, the activity shifted to St. John’s Church for a reenactment of Patrick Henry’s famous “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” speech. You can see a pictorial review of the day below:
Our second event—the popular Capitol Classroom Day at the Capitol–was held Thursday, April 26. Students and parents sat in the actual seats of the legislators in the House or Senate to learn how a bill becomes a law from the capitol staff. They had an opportunity to debate a homeschool-related bill, and then electronically vote. Visits were also scheduled to the Virginia Supreme Court, and a tour of the Capitol was offered.
