He will also review the recent legislative changes to state financial aid that specifically affect homeschool students.

Marilyn Boyer

Gotta Love Those Preschoolers!
Marilyn has taught all 14 of her children at home, so she has plenty of experience with all age groups. But her very favorite age to teach is that of those eager, curious, exciting, and challenging munchkins we call preschoolers. This, Marilyn says, is the time when we lay the foundation for greatness by pouring love and acceptance all over them--instead of treating them as a nuisance. Preschoolers aren’t just little interruptions to be kept “occupied” while older siblings study. This season in a child’s life is the time to tap into his huge potential by maximizing his natural love for learning, and by helping him to see that God is preparing him for a lifetime of important service. Come and learn from Marilyn how to make the most of this brief but exciting time.

Delighting in Your Children: The Key to Their Hearts ~ Marilyn and Nathan Boyer
A famous teacher of ancient times once dismissed a student for being uncooperative. He sent him home with a note to his father saying, “I can teach him nothing; he loves me not.” Come hear 30-year veteran homeschooling mom Marilyn Boyer share why delighting in your children is the key to their hearts. She’ll be joined by her son Nate, who will share how his parents’ brand of child training impacted his life--and why he wants to educate his children in the same loving way.

How to Raise Kids of Character
Every mother wants her children to be people of worthy character. This workshop shows how to teach more than 35 important character qualities through practical projects and the hiding of God's Word in your children's hearts!

Rick Boyer

Lessons Learned Our First 30 Years of Homeschooling
Rick and his wife have been homeschooling since 1980. Starting out young and green in a time when only a handful of families were homeschooling, Rick and Marilyn found few resources to help them in their journey. They had to blaze their own trail, surviving such obstacles as skeptical grandparents, hostile school authorities, unhelpful curriculum publishers, blizzards, and more. The Boyers are still homeschooling today and now share their experiences around the world through their books and their speaking ministry. Rick will share some of the most profound lessons learned along the way, including “It’s not schooling, it’s discipleship,” “Life is the curriculum,” “The kid is the can,” “Socialization is for socialists,” “George Washington survived without Little League,” and many more!

The Making of Mountain Movers
What makes the difference between a child who just jumps through the hoops to get his “school” work done, and one who sees himself as preparing to change the world? In this workshop, Rick shares key lessons from the lives of several people, past and present, who made a lasting difference in the culture around them. You will hear practical methods for applying the powerful lessons of high achievers to your day-to-day teaching. Don’t just school your children--prepare them to be world changers!

Take Back the Land
It has been said that the parents of the 1980s and '90s were the Moses generation--they left Egypt (government schooling) and headed for the Promised Land, just as the Israelites once traversed the wilderness to return to Canaan. Moses’ generation completed part of the mission, getting as far as the Jordan River, but it was left to Joshua and the younger Israelites to cross the river and take back the land that had been promised to their father Abraham centuries before.

Today, homeschooling parents have broken free from the bondage of godless philosophies and are raising up the Joshua generation that will carry the battle over the Jordan--taking the banner of Christ back into American government, law, medicine, business, education, and the arts, where God and His Word were once universally honored. In this session, we will discuss specific actions Christian young people and their families can take to fight for God's truth on the spiritual battlefields of today. The enemies of God are trembling today at the thunderous approach of the Joshua generation!

The Boyer Family

Passing the Family Torch
What is life really like for a homeschooling family? And what is life like for the children who have grown up and started families of their own? Was their own upbringing a good preparation for adulthood and parenting? In this exciting and encouraging workshop, you’ll learn the answers to these and many other questions from homeschooling pioneers Rick and Marilyn Boyer and several of their adult children. Hear about the difficulties and triumphs, mistakes made, and lessons learned in a 30-year homeschooling adventure. There will be audience participation, so bring your own questions, too!

Leadership Lessons My Kidneys Taught Me - Leadership Luncheon
Did you know that every time David referred to his “reins” in the Psalms, he used the Hebrew word kilyah, which literally means “kidney”? In fact, there are several cultures around the world that use the word “kidney” the way we use the word “heart.” Try it some time with your family: “I love you with my whole kidney.” Recognizing that the old English word “reins” and our modern term “renal” come from the same root, we will explore the demands of leadership and support from a “kidney” perspective. We might even learn a tiny bit about anatomy too!

Identifying Blocked Learning Gates in Children of All Ages
This is for your "puzzling child" or for your teenager who "dislikes" school. A child may be a reluctant learner for several reasons other than not trying hard enough. Even though these reasons may be a mystery to you, they do not need to remain so. If you have a bright, hard-working child who has to work too hard to learn, he is telling you that one or more of his four learning gates is blocked. This workshop will help you identify which of the learning gates is blocked, and, more importantly, what you can do about it at home! It doesn't have to be so hard for your child!

Help! My Child Doesn't Remember What He Reads!
Many parents find that after their child has read a passage and is asked what he just read, he says, "I don't know." How do you teach a child to comprehend what he is reading? I have found a very simple technique that I used with my students in my reading class. It only involves 15 minutes a day to train your child to "make a movie" in his head while reading. This is really what good readers do. With a little training, all kids can do this--and love it. Reading comprehension soars, as does the love of reading. It also works for memorizing the important parts of a chapter for test taking. It actually is one of the techniques used for freshman at Cambridge University to help them with test taking. I currently teach this quick-and-easy reading-comprehension and test-taking method to special-education teachers in a graduate-level course at Colorado University. I will gladly pass this method on to you to use at home with your readers!?

Dysgraphia: When Writing Is Painful
Does your child whine every time he has to write? Is copying a paragraph painful for him? Does he still write reversals after age seven? Does he press so hard that his pencil lead breaks? Does he try to do all math problems in his head, so he won’t have to write the problems down? Do you often think that this child is sloppy, lazy, or unmotivated? Come and learn about the symptoms of true dysgraphia, and how to correct it at home. This complex problem has a very easy solution. You will be able to start helping your child the very next day. All materials will be given to you in this workshop. God has good solutions!

Sensory Processing Dysfunction: When Everything Bothers Your Child
Dr. Lendon B. Smith, the "baby doctor," calls these children "goosey, touchy kids." Everything seems to bother them because their nervous system is in hyper alert at all times. Many times these children look as if they have a character problem, a behavior problem, A.D.D., or A.D.H.D. It is really that their nervous system is in overdrive. Loud noises bother them; socks bother them; tags have to be cut out; transitions are hard; they cry or meltdown frequently. Learn to identify if your child has this issue, and, more importantly, what parents all over the country are doing to help their child feel and act better.

Dr. S.M. Davis

Three Key Elements of Successful Parenting
Though there may be some exceptions, generally speaking, if a child chooses evil as an adult, it is probably because his parents failed in some way to properly train him as a child. There are three key elements in successful parenting that work together to help parents produce wise, godly children. These may also be called “The ABCs of Successful Parenting.”
Always win in training the child to obey. The parent, not the child, must be the winner in every contest of wills. A teenage rebel is often the product of a child who was not made to obey.
Be gentle. Firmness must be balanced with gentleness or it easily becomes harshness. David said, “Thy gentleness hath made me great” (Psalm 18:35). Greatness in a child is produced by gentleness in his parents.
Consistently be consistent. Parents must not “start and stop.” They must stand together so that children know it is not possible to “pit one against the other.”

Changing the Heart of a Rebel ~ (Recommended for parents only)
NO, REBELLION IS NOT NORMAL. YES, THERE IS A SOLUTION!
Many testimonies from around the world attest to the effectiveness of the biblical principles expounded in this message. Parents of younger children say the message has helped them understand parenting and prevent problems with their children. Some parents say they listen to the message every few weeks to help them stay "on track" as a parent. Still other parents have found the message to be the "lifeline" to stop a descent into destruction and to save the life and future of their rebellious teen.

The Influence of Older Children on Younger Ones
Dr. Davis recommends this message on DVD as his most important message for entire families to watch together. The main reason the prodigal son was a rebel was because he was rejected by his older brother. Most rebels in the Bible and in history were not second-borns, but firstborns. When second-borns got into trouble, it was usually because they were following their older siblings. It is no quirk of nature that firstborns are often very strong willed. God wanted that strong will turned in the right direction so that the influence of the parents and the firstborn cause the second-born to move in the right direction; then the influence of the parents, firstborn, and second-born move the third-born in the right direction, etc. There are 10 key principles from III John that older children should apply in relation to younger children that will bring joy to their own hearts, as well as sweet harmony to their entire family. This message ends with three moving illustrations of the powerful influence of older children on younger ones.

How Right Priorities Prevent or Solve Life’s Problems
A commonly asked question for years has been, "What is the top priority for a man--his job (or ministry) or his family?" Many men, including pastors, who have answered that question have lost their families because the question itself is flawed, deceptive, and misleading. The proper question to ask in relation to priorities is, "Who is a man's top priority, as far as relationships are concerned?" When that question is answered biblically and properly, the answer provides a solid foundation for whatever ministry God gives a man. When the question is not answered biblically, devastating consequences may be the result.

From his newest book, Already Gone, Ken relates the shocking statistics on why our young people are walking away from their faith and what we can do about it. This workshop will help us understand the real issues and better equip us to fight back and ground our children as we prepare them for the challenges of today's world.

Discover how dinosaurs help us to testify of the Bible's reliability and the message of salvation!

Learning How to Think Biblically
Many people have the idea the battle between Christianity and humanism (or creation and evolution) is a battle over who has more "facts." However, the real battle is actually over the interpretation of the same facts. Until Christians understand that everyone has the same facts, but different interpretations of those facts (based upon different presuppositions or biases), they will not be successful in learning how to defend the Christian faith and think in a true biblical manner. It's very possible you will never think the same way about this world after attending this workshop!

Raising Godly Children in an Ungodly World
In this discussion, Ken shares his testimony about his own upbringing, helping parents understand the importance of training children from a truly biblical foundation. Ken also gives his answers to such questions as these: Should attend public schools, or is there a case for homeschooling? What does the Bible say (not your opinion) on how to bring up children, how to train them, how to discipline them, and how to educate them? What should the priorities be in education?

Mark Holden

My Child Has an Attitude
“Boy, do you ever have an attitude!” In this session, attitude is defined and instruction given for building a positive attitude. Motivation is a large factor in the ability to train your child. Romans 12:1-2 will provide helpful insight into shaping the outlook and mental development of your child.

The Father’s Role in Home Education
Our heavenly Father’s design is for men to model His relationship to His children. The great vacuum of male servant-leadership has allowed for many misconceptions and practices concerning the man’s role in God’s plan. This session is a look at biblical manhood as it relates to child-training, as well as a call back to biblical fathering.

The Home Is the Key
The family is the foundational building block from which stability comes for society, the church, and the business world. This session explores and defines the significant place God has given to the family, and calls parents to work for a strong home base from which to serve.

Courtship Chaos
Hurt. Pain. Frustration. Hopelessness. The Christian reaction against the dating approach to relationship building has brought its own set of needs, abuses, and extremisms. This session will attempt to deal honestly with a subject that has brought great trouble into the lives of countless young men and women. This subject is highly recommended for young adults and the parents who care for them.

When Boys Turn into Men
Raising sons is such a huge privilege and responsibility, yet the evidence of so many casualties declares our ineffectiveness. Let’s talk plainly about the labor of delivering boys into men, and the biblical principles to help us toward a live birth.

Math from a Biblical Worldview?
We see God’s hand in science and history, but what about math? Isn’t math just a bunch of neutral facts? While most of us have come to look upon math as “neutral,” it’s not! Worldviews do matter in math--and there’s much more to looking at math from a biblical worldview than adding a scripture at the bottom of the page or using a Bible word problem. Come discover biblical principles that make math come alive and give math meaning, helping children really understand what they’re learning. Find out how “neutral” presentations are really not neutral. Leave equipped to begin looking at and teaching math from a new perspective!

Homeschool Freedom
Finding a style that is all your own and walking in that freedom--free of any fear of judgment from others--is all about not succumbing to homeschool peer pressure--or just doing what others do. It is also about knowing what the law requires and what God’s Word has said, and then being sensitive to what God is calling you to do. Every family has an identity, and our approach in how we educate is a contributor to that identity.

When Our Kids Disappoint Us (and They Will)
Kerin shares how to walk in love when our kids disappoint us and make wrong choices. These are the times when we get to live the gospel and show them the mercy and kindness that was shown to us!

Homeschool Distractions
What are those things that distract us from maintaining our short-term plans and our long-term goals in home education? What can we do to recognize them, and how can we learn to manage them (or ourselves)? This session would be good for new homeschoolers, those with lots of kids, and perhaps those who work as well as homeschool.

Life with Little Ones--A Season When Our Weaknesses Are Revealed!
Sharing some of the practical challenges of life with little ones under foot, Kerin will include suggestions for establishing routines and age-appropriate boundaries, as well as giving early training in respect, obedience, and self-control. Kerin will also share some of the attitude struggles and issues of the heart that are inevitably revealed as we try to have some order and control over our young children.

The Puzzle of the Grand Canyon--A Tale of Two Lakes
The Grand Canyon is one of the most breathtaking--and perplexing--sites in the U.S.A. Standard geological explanations for its formation are incorrect, and most creationists have overlooked some major pieces of the puzzle. Amazingly, what carved the canyon also explains most of the fascinating geological features in the entire area (e.g., Monument Valley, the Petrified Forest, Canyonlands and Arches, Canyon de Chelley, etc.). Furthermore, they all formed very quickly! What happened?!

Lost Secrets of the Ancient Civilizations
The biblical and secular views of the origins of man are diametrically opposed to each other, as are the two views of man’s activities in the past. Ancient civilizations indicate a high level of accomplishment--something to be expected if we were created “good” at the beginning, but something labeled “mysterious” by those who believe in a four-million-year process. However, all great civilizations of the past have collapsed. Why? Does the Bible have anything to say about this?

Passing on the Torch
This session concentrates on the importance of passing on a Christian worldview to the next generation, be it to our own children or to others with whom we interact. It defines how a worldview works, and offers a series of practical steps to laying a strong, biblical foundation through what we’ve called “The 7 C’s of History.”

Strengthening Reading-Comprehension Skills
In the early grades (K-3), the emphasis in most language-arts programs is on the foundational skills of reading and decoding. But once these are mastered, the focus switches to understanding the content of what is being read. As a student approaches the middle and high school years, he or she spends more and more time reading literature, science, and social studies texts, as well as newspapers and magazines. A child’s strength in this area depends on many factors. In this workshop, we will discuss techniques and materials you can use, beginning even in the early years, to improve your child’s reading comprehension.

Helping Children Develop Study Skills
“Go to your room and study your spelling words, then I will call them out to you.” Have you ever heard or said those words before? We usually assume that our children understand what we mean by the word “study”; however, do they? If we want our children to get the MOST from learning, we need to help them create study skills by Motivating, Organizing, Studying, and Teaching. Knowing how to study is a skill that will make them into lifelong learners.

Beginning the Homeschooling Journey: Preparing Our Hearts and Our Homes
Answering the call to homeschool our children is the beginning of a journey with both blessings and trials. Preparing our hearts towards God and our homes as the main environment for the journey will make the road much smoother. Using Abraham’s call and response as a model, we will first see if our hearts are prepared. Then we will focus on all the preparations we can set in place at home to be ready for this exciting and rewarding journey.
