Lorraine Santa Lucia’s desire to go to college while not burdening her disabled single mother inspired her to form Scholarship Sharing, which started as a Facebook page that evolved into an award-winning student organization and then into a nonprofit. Since then Lorraine has developed a website and database, and she has been invited to speak at scholarship fairs, webinars, and events across Virginia. Prior to that, she earned $40,000 in scholarships from nineteen foundations toward her number of degrees, which include a bachelor’s degree in communications (with minors in business and Spanish) from Virginia Commonwealth University, a graduate nonprofit management certification, and a certification in Spanish translation and interpretation. Lorraine is currently completing her master’s degree in college student development and counseling at Old Dominion University. All of these degrees have been achieved without incurring debt.
