Apologia
Joe has worked in the information systems industry for 32 years and is the project manager for Apologia Educational Ministries. He and his wife, Zan, have been married for 35 years and have three homeschool graduates. The children attended college on a variety of scholarships. Ty, 34, is married and enjoying a successful medical-device sales career; John, 31, is a married defense attorney. Elizabeth, 24, produces the NBC evening news in Jacksonville, Florida. When Joe and Zan began homeschooling, the State Superintendent of Education threatened Zan with jail. In 1990, Joe was a founding board member of the South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools (SCAIHS); he currently serves as the chairman of the SCAIHS board. Joe is also on the board for Excelsior Academy—a large, weekly, homeschooling co-op. He has served as a PCA elder since 1984, and he enjoys teaching and speaking on parenting and marriage.
