Dr. Voddie Baucham is a pastor, professor, author, conference speaker, and church planter. Voddie is a devoted homeschooling father who views education as an essential aspect of discipleship. His book, Family Driven Faith, has helped shape the contemporary discussion about family discipleship and family-integrated ministry. His unique blend of sound biblical exposition, theological content, down-to-earth demeanor, and engaging presence has contributed to his reputation as one of the most requested speakers of the homeschool movement today. Florence Feldman is the mother of two grown and married children and grandmother to three. She has been a single parent for 37 years, and was the primary caregiver for her mother for the six years before her death in 2004. Flo has served as HEAV's convention director for the past 13 years, and is a professional organization consultant who has been helping individuals overcome disorder and live more productively for more than 25 years. A pioneer in the field of organizing, she was one of the first professional organizers in the country, as well as one of the first organizers to have subcontractors. Her own struggles with disorder as a young wife and mother have given her a passion for sharing the life-changing truths and techniques about getting and staying organized she discovered along the way. CONVENTION SPEAKERS

For the past eight years, Lee Andes has served as the assistant director for financial aid at the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV), the Commonwealth's coordinating body for higher education. Lee has worked for SCHEV for eleven years, and his primary responsibility is the state’s financial-aid programs, which total in excess of $200 million annually; he also provides oversight for the Domicile Guidelines, which are used by the institutions to determine eligibility for in-state tuition. Lee has conducted financial-aid presentations for high school guidance counselors, employees, parents, and students across the state. He received his bachelor's degree at Liberty University and his master's degree at Lynchburg College. Lee and his wife, Karen, are homeschooling their two children. View workshop description.


ADAM ANDREWSADAM ANDREWS, The Center for Literary Education

Adam is the director of the Center for Literary Education and a homeschooling father of six. Since 2003, he has traveled throughout the United States and Canada, presenting an innovative and accessible method for teaching the crucial skills of literary analysis and interpretation. Adam's enthusiastic style and dynamic seminar presentations have enabled many students to understand and enjoy great literature as never before, while his practical experience and fresh insights have inspired parents and teachers with new vision for their task as educators. Adam received his BA from Hillsdale College and his MA from the University of Washington, where he is currently a PhD candidate. Robert AndrewsROBERT ANDREWS, Gospel Parenting

Robert Andrews is a former college campus minister, high school chemistry teacher, basketball coach, and radio personality. In addition, he has founded two co-operative homeschools. He is currently involved in business coaching, church planting, and speaking on various topics at conferences around the country. Robert has published six books on such topics as the family, the church, sanctification, the book of Galatians, the Holy Spirit, and the nature of the gospel. CAROL BARNIERCAROL BARNIER, Open Gifts

Carol Barnier is a coast-to-coast homeschool conference speaker, author, regular radio guest, and homeschool mom. Her creative, can-do strategies with her non-stop, active child who didn't fit the traditional mold led to her book entitled How To Get Your Child Off the Refrigerator and On To Learning. Later, she authored two other books about working with non-traditional minds. With much laughter, coupled with highly practical solutions and a fervent desire to "put on God's spectacles," Carol shares strategies that will encourage you to open the gift that is your child and enable you to fulfill God’s plan, both educationally and in daily living. While she can be quite serious, probably the best description of her is what you find on her business cards: Delightful Speaker, Entertaining Author, Adequate Wife, Pitiful Housekeeper. Carol, along with her husband, homeschool their three children in Berkshire Hills, Connecticut. SUE BECKERSUE BECKER, The Bread Beckers

Sue Becker has homeschooled her children for the past 20 years. Two of her seven children still live at home, and she has five grandchildren. Sue is a speaker, teacher, and an owner of two businesses, The Bread Beckers, Inc., and The Real Bread Company, as well as the founder of Real Bread Outreach, a nonprofit ministry dedicated to educating and supplying those in need with food and tools for healthier lifestyles. Sue graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in food science and is presently studying to become certified as a nutrition counselor. Sue and her husband, Brad, have been teaching others the benefits of healthy eating since 1992 and have seen countless lives changed for the better. The Becker family lives in Canton, Georgia. MARILYN BOYERMARILYN BOYER, The Learning Parent

Marilyn is a blessed mom of 14 and grandma of six who has taught her children at home since 1980. Her passion is training her family to reach their potential for serving God and encouraging other moms to do so also. She has authored several books on home education and Christian parenthood and is a nationally known homeschool speaker. She and her husband, Rick, operate The Learning Parent, a ministry to equip and encourage parents in their exciting mission of training future generations. RICK BOYERRICK BOYER, The Learning Parent

Homeschooling speaker and author, Rick Boyer, is one the early trailblazers of the home-education movement. He and his wife, Marilyn, have taught their 14 children at home from kindergarten through high school since 1980. Rick has spoken at homeschool conventions across the U.S. as well as overseas and has authored several books on Christian parenthood and home education. He and Marilyn operate The Learning Parent, a ministry to home-teaching families (www.thelearningparent.com). Jonathan BrushJONATHAN BRUSH

Jonathan Brush was one of the first two homeschooled students admitted to Bridgewater College. He graduated from Bridgewater College in 1999, worked as an admissions counselor at Bridgewater after graduation, was promoted to assistant director of admissions in 2000, and has been the director of admissions at Bridgewater since 2001. He is married to Kara, also a homeschool graduate, and they homeschool their four children. View workshop descriptions.

 

 

YVONNE BUNNYVONNE BUNN, Home Educators Association of Virginia

Yvonne, HEAV's director of homeschool support and director of government affairs, works with HEAV's legislative team to protect and improve Virginia's homeschool laws. She initiated Governor George Allen's proclamation of Virginia Home Education Week and continues to coordinate HEAV's annual Day at the Capitol. She also spearheaded HEAV's efforts in the General Assembly to pass the first homeschool license plate in the nation. Yvonne works with a network of local support groups to provide accurate, up-to-date information to homeschoolers. She developed the Homeschool Success Seminar series and has spoken at many homeschool conferences throughout Virginia. She has also participated in a weeklong series on the nationally syndicated "Homeschool Heartbeat." In 1992, Yvonne received Home School Legal Defense Association's "Outstanding Service" award. Yvonne and her husband, George, have five children and seven grandchildren. She has a degree in elementary education and taught high school prior to homeschooling for 18 years. Janice Campbell, a writer and speaker, homeschooled her four sons from preschool into college. INGE CANNONINGE CANNON, Education PLUS

Arriving from Germany as a little girl, Inge Cannon grew up with a deep love for classical music, reading books, and serving the Lord. Her 35+ years of experience as an educator include teaching in K-12 and college-level classrooms, along with many administrative posts. In 1983, the Lord turned her heart toward the homeschool community, where she has provided more than two decades of support as an author, publisher, seminar instructor, curriculum developer, testing consultant, lobbyist for parental rights in education, and conference planner. Inge has also done extensive work in taking the mystery out of the high school transcript production process and developing software to give transcripts a professional edge while keeping the reporting simple. DIANNE CRAFT, MA, CNHPDIANNE CRAFT, MA, CNHP, Child Diagnostics/Dianne Craft

A former homeschool mom with 25 years' experience teaching children who struggle with learning, Dianne received both her bachelor's and master's degrees in special education. She is also a certified natural health professional specializing in natural treatments for children with attention, learning, and behavioral issues. She teaches parents across the country how to help their children learn faster and easier by using effective therapies and strategies.  Dianne is president of the educational consulting firm, Child Diagnostics, Inc., in Littleton, Colorado, and currently serves as a learning specialist for the Homeschool Legal Defense Association. STEVE DEMMESTEVE DEMME, The Family that Stays Together...Stays Together, Math-U-See

Steve and his wife, Sandra, have been married for more than 29 years and have been blessed with four boys: Isaac, 28; Ethan, 26; Joseph, 23; and Johnny, 21. With God's help, all four have been home educated. Steve addresses a variety of topics at homeschool conferences that encourage parents in their God-given responsibilities of raising and training their children for His glory. His desire is to understand God's word and practice it, beginning in the home. As a former math teacher who has taught all levels of math in public, private, and Christian schools, Steve is also the author and founder of Math-U-See. A Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary graduate, Steve has served in full- and part-time pastoral ministry for many years. TAMMY DUBYTAMMY DUBY, Tobin's Lab

Tammy is a homeschool mom of 19 years, mother of two, and a borrower of other people's children. She holds degrees in elementary and early childhood education. Her teaching takes a hands-on approach while emphasizing literature, and her workshops offer a blessing, a good laugh, and practical ideas parents can implement right away. She is the co-author of The Ultimate Lap BookTM Handbook, Add Two Cups of Laughter, and Pillars of the Hebrew Nation. She and her husband, Mike, own Tobin's Lab: Hands-On Science. Jessica, a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, has done post-graduate work at Texas A&M at Commerce. She speaks nationally on a variety of public-education and homeschool topics, writes curriculum for KONOS, contributes articles to several homeschool magazines, and has taught for 31 years. Twenty-four of those years were spent homeschooling her four sons who are now 32, 28, 25, and 20. Jessica lives with her husband, Wade, on 75 acres north of Dallas, Texas. She has just started a new business called Homeschoolmentor.com, which is designed to train--using Jessica's online video instruction and lesson planning--the next generation of homeschool moms how to teach their children. DOREEN MORGANDOREEN MORGAN, Faithful Bookshop

By God's grace, Doreen Morgan has been home educating for more than 16 years. Her family includes three children, two of whom are already adults; a fabulous son-in-law; and three precious grandchildren. The Morgans own the Faithful Bookshop, a Florida-based homeschool business, and continue to serve hundreds of home educators. Their family goals are to encourage parents to pursue home education and to help them share matters that will speak to the hearts of their children.

Doreen has written for several homeschool support-group publications around the country and has served as an editor for three years. She has also spoken at a variety of homeschool support groups and state conferences. Currently, Doreen is teaching "The Art of Storytelling," as well as writing Homeschooling, Hormones & Hot Flashes. KERIN MORGANKERIN MORGAN

Kerin and her husband, Bob, have been married for 29 years and have 11 children and two grandchildren. Kerin began homeschooling in 1985 and is still homeschooling her last six children, ages 10-17. Kerin is humbled to be a frequent speaker at local churches and neighborhood, homeschool, and MOPS groups in the Richmond area. Her greatest passion, aside from ministry within her own home, is to share what she has gleaned from her own successes and failures as a wife, mother, and teacher to her children. In addition to speaking for the last 15 years, Kerin and her family have run Morgan Swim School and annually teach approximately 2,000 children to swim. Wade Myers

WADE MYERS, New Venture Lab

Wade Myers is a homeschooling father of four and founder of New Venture Lab, a business incubator dedicated to assisting Christian men with their entrepreneurial ventures. He is also the president of Venture Academy, a Christian entrepreneurship training program. A decorated veteran of the Gulf War and a Harvard MBA, Wade has broad experience as an executive, entrepreneur, and investor. He brings his expertise to homeschooling families through his workshops and conferences, his "Venture Forth" column in Homeschooling Today magazine, and his website (www.NewVentureLab.com). JOEL SALATINJOEL SALATIN, Polyface Farm

Joel Salatin is a fulltime farmer in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. A third generation alternative farmer, he returned to the farm fulltime in 1982 and continued refining and adding to his parents' ideas. Using relationship marketing through on-farm sales and metropolitan buying clubs, Polyface Farm services more than 1,500 families, 10 retail outlets, and 30 restaurants  with salad-bar beef, pastured poultry, eggmobile eggs, pigaerator pork, forage-based rabbits, pastured turkey, and forestry products. A sought-after conference speaker, his humorous and conviction-based speeches are akin to theatrical performances, often receiving standing ovations. Salatin holds a BA degree in English and writes extensively in magazines such as Stockman Grass Farmer, Acres USA, and American Agriculturalist. View workshop descriptions.

 

MIKE SNAVELYMIKE SNAVELY, Mission Imperative

Reared in South Africa as the son of missionary parents, Mike has always been fascinated with wildlife. Growing up in an area that teemed with remarkable and diverse creatures, he had a wide variety of "pets" and fascinating experiences, which helped to mold his future. After graduating from Oak Hills College in Minnesota in 1979, he returned to South Africa to work for the National Parks Service in the world-famous Kruger National Park and later began a career as an African wildlife artist. In 1986, he and his wife, Carrie, returned to South Africa with TEAM (The Evangelical Alliance Mission) and served by teaching at Durban Bible College. Since returning to the U.S., they have developed a ministry of teaching creation through a series of seminars using nature and wildlife as a basis. They established Mission: Imperative in 1995 as a nonprofit corporation. The ministry necessitates much travel, both in this country and abroad. Mike and Carrie have homeschooled their three children since 1991. Mike is the author of Creation or Evolution: A Home-Study Curriculum and has produced seven DVDs on a wide range of topics related to creation issues. View workshop descriptions.

Author, speaker, and educator Debbie Strayer is a co-author of the Learning Language Arts Through Literature series, co-founder of Homeschooling Today Magazine, co-author of the Trail Guide to Learning series, and longtime consultant to homeschool families. She has been married to her husband, Greg, for 30 years and is mother to two homeschool graduates. This year, Debbie will be encouraging homeschoolers in the U.S. and internationally. CAROL TOPP, CPACAROL TOPP, CPA, HomeschoolCPA

Carol Topp, CPA (www.HomeschoolCPA.com) and author of Homeschool Co-ops: How to Start Them, Run Them and Not Burn Out, runs a home-based accounting practice specializing in tax preparation, small/micro business accounting, and nonprofit accounting. She is a member of the Ohio Society of CPAs, the National Association of Tax Professionals, and the Society of Nonprofit Organizations. Carol has served on several nonprofit boards including her church, American Heritage Girls, Inc., PregnancyCare Cincinnati, and her own homeschool co-op.

As a speaker and member of the Ohio Society of CPAs Speakers Bureau, Carol has presented numerous workshops on money management, business start-ups, taxes, and budgeting to various community, church, and homeschool groups. She enjoys teaching personal finance classes to high school students at her homeschool co-op and has published several magazine articles in The Old Schoolhouse, Home Education, and Homeschool Enrichment magazines, as well as in the National Association of Tax Professional's TaxPro.

Carol is really a homeschooled CPA, as she received her CPA license in 2000 after taking distance-learning classes while a stay-at-home mom. She and her husband, Dave, live in Cincinnati, Ohio, where they have been homeschooling their two daughters for twelve years. View workshop descriptions.
