Date: Coming in January 2018
Hundreds of homeschool families participated in state government at the Virginia Capitol on Thursday, January 26. Parents, grandparents, and students of all ages met at the Library of Virginia for HEAV’s 2017 Day at the Capitol. Yvonne Bunn introduced HEAV’s lobbyists and presented a legislative update. Delegate Ben Cline, who is an avid homeschool supporter, encouraged parents to pray for their legislators. This was followed by a dynamic call to grassroots action from Rev. Ben Knotts speaking on behalf of our sponsor, Americans for Prosperity.
Next, twelve volunteer legislative guides (experienced homeschool activists) led groups of parents and homeschoolers to the General Assembly building to the visit their legislators or stop by committee meetings. Volunteers delivered packets of homeschool information to all 140 legislators. Afterwards, each group enjoyed a tour of the Capitol. Both the House and Senate recognized home educators from the floor. The day ended with a rousing call to freedom from “Patrick Henry” and other re-enactors at St. John’s Church.
