Waynesboro YMCA will be holding several one-day lifeguard training courses open to adults and students ages 15 and older, as well as hiring several part-time lifeguards. In order to take the certification course, candidates must be able to swim 300 yards continuously (front crawl and breastroke), tread water with legs only for 3 minutes, and pass a timed, 10-pound brick swim. This course gives lifeguard training candidates the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare candidates to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drowning and other incidents. Upon successful completion of the training course, candidates will receive a two-year certification in Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR for Professional Rescuer, Oxygen Delivery, and Bloodborne Pathogens.
