This engaging history of our nation’s beginning is geared toward elementary school students, complete with teacher’s guide and lesson plans.

2.2 Colonel Shipp’s Leadership Institute – New Market – Registration Deadline Is July 7 – New Market

Virginia Museum of the Civil War
New Market, VA

Monday, July 24 through Friday, July 28, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost: $25/student per day or $100/student for all five days. Open to young men ages 13-17. Registration deadline is Friday, July 7, 2016. Each camp is limited to 10 participants; early registration is encouraged. Cost includes supplies and snack.

Explore life as a VMI cadet in the 19th century. Students will participate in team-building games and exercises, study the Battle of New Market from a cadet’s point of view, take battlefield tours and history hikes, and more.

2.3 Jacob Bushong’s Birthday – New Market – August 19

Saturday, August 19, 2016, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost: Event is free with paid admission to the Virginia Museum of the Civil War. Admission fees are: $10/adult (13 to 64 years old); $9/senior (65 years and older); $6/child (6 to 12 years); children 5 years and younger are free.

Join the Virginia Museum of the Civil War’s living historians for food, dancing, games, activities, and music, in celebration of David Bushong’s birthday at the historic Bushong Farm. With so much to do, there’s sure to be something fun for everyone.

New Market Battlefield State Historical Park is a historic American Civil War battlefield and national historic district located near New Market, Virginia. The district encompasses the site of the Battle of New Market. In the middle of the battlefield stands the Bushong House, used by both sides as a hospital during the battle, and now the visitor center for the 300-acre park.

2.4 Origin Science Meetings – Multiple Locations – Multiple Dates

Meetings are free and open to all. Membership, which costs $25 per family each year, is not required, but is needed to check out items from the library. Many homeschool parents attend these meetings along with their children of all ages; free childcare is available. There are also refreshments; bring some to share if you wish. The group has a large selection of creation science-related materials available for sale, as well as a video and DVD lending library available at each meeting. Choose the most convenient location for meetings.

Peninsula (Hampton Roads) Group

Group meets at 7 p.m. on the Friday before the second Saturday of the month.

South Side (Hampton Roads) Group

Group meets at 7 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month.

Check the Origin Science Association website closer to the dates to see the monthly topics. Programs typically include a video presentation and discussion, but sometimes there is a live speaker.
