Saturday, February 11, 2017, from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Cost: This is free event, geared for adults and students over the age of eight. Pre-registration is required and will remain open until all available seats are filled. Spaces can fill up quickly, and early registration is recommended.

Performers with the touring company Bright Star Theater will bring characters to life and allow the audience to ride with the Buffalo Soldiers, take flight with the Tuskegee Airmen, and spy for the Union during the Civil war.

3.3 Society of Women Engineers Richmond Section Scholarship – Application Deadline Is March 1

The Richmond section of the Society of Women Engineers announces its 2017 scholarship. It is a $1000, one-time award, open to women entering the field of engineering or computer science. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a woman in the Richmond area entering her first year of college or university
  • Attend an ABET-accredited school to receive a bachelor’s degree
  • Major in engineering or computer science
  • Be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident
  • If selected as a scholarship recipient, be able to provide proof of enrollment

Completed application components must be submitted in PDF format and emailed to swe.richmond@gmail.com no later than March 1, 2017.

3.4 Northern Virginia Homeschool Athletics Association Homeschool Track Registration – Spring Season Opens In March

Track team registration is now open to students ages 12 to 18 years. No experience is required. Cost: $200/student, plus $30 registration fee.

Northern Virginia Homeschool Athletics Association (NVHAA) is a 501c3 non-profit, Christian-led organization established to provide young men and women who do not otherwise have the opportunity to play competitive middle and high school sports.

Conditioning meeting will begin in March and be held once a week, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. The first meeting will include registration, parent meeting, and time trials.

The season runs April through May, twice a week from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Dates will be confirmed shortly.

Saturday, March 18, 2017, from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost: This is a free event, open to the public.

Northern Virginia Homeschool Athletics Association (NVHAA) is a 501c3 non-profit, Christian-led organization established to provide young men and women who do not otherwise have the opportunity to play competitive middle and high school sports.

This clinic offers attendees a great way to learn about the world’s oldest sport. The free session will cover rules and scoring and include demonstrations of moves. Attendees will participate and experience a typical practice, including live wrestling. The first twenty students to register for the spring wrestling season will receive a free copy of the devotional book, Between the Tackles, by head coach, Tom Houck.

3.7 Earth Day Upcycle – Manassas – April 20

Thursday, April 20, 2017, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Cost: This is free event, for students in grades four through eight. Registration will open on April 6; deadline is April 19.

Students will learn some creative ways to upcycle trash into treasure. They’ll take something that is old, unused, or unwanted, and make it into something fun, different, and useful. Craft supplies will be provided.
