1.3 Homeschool Day: National D-Day Memorial – Bedford – Register by April 15

National D-Day Memorial
3 Overlord Circle
Bedford, VA

Friday, April 25, 2014, 9 a.m. to noon. Cost: $4/person; children ages five and under are free. The price includes admission, activities, and a guided tour. Although designed for students ages nine and up, everyone is invited. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the outdoors. Register by Tuesday, April 15, at 5 p.m.

The annual D-Day Memorial Homeschool Day will offer hands-on learning experiences for all ages. Spend ration points wisely at the Piggly Wiggly grocery store. Examine equipment worn by soldiers in World War II. Uncover the story of World War II spies. Discover more about the largest amphibious invasion in history through many interactive stations and a guided tour of the Memorial.

1.4 Eastern Shore Museum Heritage Trail – Onacock – April 25

Friday, April 25, 2014, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free of charge; however the organizers request you call ahead to confirm your museum tour.

Celebrate the history and culture of the Eastern Shore with this one-day-only event. Museums up and down the Shore will be open on Friday, April 25 (the day before the Eastern Shore’s Garden Tour) for you to see all the sights and sounds the Shore has to offer.

Participating museums include Delmarva Discovery Center, Saxis Island Museum, Francis Makemie Society, Museum of Chincoteague, Eastern Shore Railway Museum, Eastern Shore Public Library, Eastern Shore Watermen’s Museum and Research Center, Ker Place Museum, Locustville Academy, Barrier Island Center, Northampton Historic Preservation Society, and the Cape Charles Museum and Welcome Center.

1.6 Swift Creek Home Educators Used Curriculum Sale – Midlothian – May 12

Monday, May 12, 2014, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sellers must arrive at 6 p.m. to set up their tables, which are provided by the church. Cost: $5/table for non-members of Swift Creek to sell; free tables for members to sell. There is a two-table maximum. Free admission for shoppers.

Shop the Swift Creek Home Educators Used Curriculum Sale for bargains close to home. Sell used curriculum and get a head start on buying supplies for next year.
