Design your own rocket at this free beginner’s aerospace engineering program. Students will be introduced to the concepts of aerodynamics, propulsion, structural design, and flight. Design your own pneumatically-driven rocket and learn how to stabilize the rocket’s flight.

2.10 Chess Tournament – Norfolk – Best Price by April 18

Saturday April 19, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost: $10/participant (early registration fee paid by April 18); $15/participant (registration fee paid on the day of the tournament). Players will be grouped by age (ages 5 through 7, ages 8 through 10, and ages 11 through 14). Please register soon, but definitely before the day of the event. E-mail Coach Dawson and include the child’s name, age, grade, school, and how long the child has been playing chess.

Trophies and medals will be awarded to the top three winners in each age group. All participants will receive participation awards. This is a great opportunity for a youngster–even at age five–to enter the world of chess tournaments close to home.

2.12 Iron Sharpens Iron Men’s Conference – Springfield – Register by April 28

This will be the largest mid-Atlantic men’s gathering of the year. It will feature two of America’s most dynamic young pastors: Darrin Patrick, founding pastor of Journey Church in St. Louis, MO and Joshua Harris, lead pastor of Covenant Life Church in Gaithersburg MD. They will be joined by Joshua’s father, Gregg Harris, a pioneer leader in the homeschooling, family restoration, and parental rights movements since 1980. Gregg is Director of Noble Institute and the father of seven children, including Joshua the oldest, and twins Alex and Brett Harris, coauthors of two bestselling books, Do Hard Things and Start Here. Tom Joyce (pastor, former Top Gun pilot and Pentagon 9/11 survivor) will also be speaking with his oldest son, a wounded warrior in Afghanistan. There will also be 16 different seminars for men of all ages and stages of life.
