2.1 Rain Barrel Workshop – Newport News – February 8

Saturday, February 8, 2014, from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost: $50/adult; cost includes workshop, education, and materials to assemble your own rain barrel. Pre-registration is required; space is limited.

Join the VCE Newport News Master Gardeners and Water Steward Volunteers in learning about the benefits of utilizing a rain barrel in your yard and garden with this hands-on workshop. At the end of the session, you will have built your own rain barrel to take home with you, so be prepared to get dirty!

2.2 “Reach at Peak” Rock Climbing for Children on Autism Spectrum at Peak Experience – Midlothian – Ongoing

Various dates, from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. This program is by appointment. Please e-mail for information on available times. Cost: $100; covers four, one-hour sessions with a climbing mentor and all gear needed for climbing.

“Reach at Peak” is a new program designed to introduce children with Autism Spectrum Disorder to the world of indoor rock climbing. Through climbing, they will begin to build confidence and improve motor skills, but, more importantly, they will have fun! Come let our specially trained, climbing mentors help your child reach new heights. Reach has open enrollment and many available times to fit your busy schedule.

Astronomy fans in Virginia can get in on some Christian astronomy fun and learning in the late spring or summer, not far from Washington, D.C. The current thought is for the weekend of Friday, July 18 through Sunday, July 20, 2014. Does that sound good to anyone? Some folks from Virginia have expressed interest, including the nice people at Nature Friend magazine.
