1.1 Beat-the-Clock Essay Workshop – Chesterfield – Register by October 30

Friday, November 1, 2013, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Cost: $15/auditing parent; $35/parent participating in the class; $40/student (grades 9 through 12, or approximately 14 years  and older). Cost includes the class and a handbook. Register by the morning of Wednesday, October 30.

In this class, taught by Janice Campbell, students will write two essays and will leave with the practical tools they need to write timed essays, plus techniques they can apply to any type of writing. The workshop is designed for high school and advanced intermediate-school students (and for parents who want to improve their own writing and evaluation skills). Parents may attend as auditing parents or as part of the class.

1.2 Pony School – Chesapeake – Register by December 16

Begins Wednesday, January 8, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Offered Wednesday and Friday, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; choose one or two sessions/week. Sessions will run from January through April, May through August, and from September through December. Cost: $150/month (one session/week); $275/month (two sessions/week). Open to children ages six and up; no horse experience is necessary. Cost includes riding lesson, worksheets, and instruction on other horse-related topics. Students must wear long pants, boots with a heel, and a shirt they don’t mind getting a little dirty! If they like, they should bring a snack and a drink. Register by the morning of Monday, December 16.

Sea Breeze Ponies will be starting a pony school program, an educational program held rain or shine (there is a heated and air-conditioned club room). They will teach everything from cleaning stalls to riding! Each student or pair of students will be assigned a pony to help care for while they are enrolled, cleaning their stalls, feeding, and watering. In addition to riding and horse care, there will be guest speakers such as the veterinarian and farrier and classroom sessions on topics such as horse colors, conformation, different riding disciplines, horse first aid, horse judging, and much more.

Sea Breeze also offers a mommy-and-me pony preschool for children ages four through six, riding lessons, farm birthday parties, and camps.
