Tuesday, October 15, 2013, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Cost: $25/family; make payment online. This seminar is recommended for high school students studying American History, their parents, and their teachers. Register by midnight, Saturday, October 12.

You’re invited to the Patrick Henry Seminar to be held at a homeschooler’s farm near Olney, Maryland. “Give me liberty or give me death!” is a familiar Patrick Henry quote to most Americans. Learn more about Patrick Henry and his views on the emerging American Republic in this seminar presented by Dr Joe Arminio.

1.2 Autumn Homeschool Day at James Madison’s Montpelier – Montpelier Station – October 21

James Madison’s Montpelier

October 21, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost: $5/person; children under age six are free. Homeschool Day is held rain-or-shine. In the event of rain, certain activities will be canceled or moved to alternate locations. Pay at the door; no registration required.

Take a guided hike of their old-growth forest, sit in on the Constitutional Convention, read from James’ bookshelf, play colonial games, and much more! At 11 a.m., hear former Virginia First Lady Susan Allen speak about the inspiration behind her new children’s book, The Remarkable Ronald Reagan. A book signing will follow. As always, you are invited to take in Montpelier’s everyday offerings–guided tours of James and Dolley Madison’s beloved home, the archaeology lab full of artifacts, museum exhibits, and grounds galore for walking, picnicking, and exploring.

1.3 Tidewater Christian Homeschool Spelling Bee – Chesapeake – Register by December 9

The bee will be held Thursday, January 9, 2014; register by December 9, 2013. Register early to gain access to study materials now. Cost: $10/speller. Open to homeschooled students in grades one through eight. See the website for detailed information.
