Description: Exploration did not just occur during what has become known as the “Age of Exploration.” Man explored for thousands of years prior to Christopher Columbus and he continues to explore the unknown today. During this special homeschool day, participants will learn about exploration during the time of Christopher Columbus, discovery and conservation of the USSMonitor, the Franklin Expedition, the use of shipwrecks as reefs, and much more. Students will make connections between explorations of the past and discoveries of today and tomorrow in this Day of Exploration. Classes include:
- “Conservation of the USS Monitor” and “Franklin Expedition” (grades 9 through 12)
- “Mock Ship Activity” and “Franklin Expedition” (grades 6 through 8)
- “Age of Exploration” and “Shipwrecks & Reefs” (grades 3 through 5)
- “Hardtack’s Adventures with Columbus” and “Stories of Discovery & Exploration” (kindergarten through grade 2)
