Superintendent’s Approval for Driver’s License

Q. I happened to notice the following language on the DMV website. Isn’t this incorrect?

“If you are an approved home schooler, driver education can be taught at home. The student must currently be enrolled in a home-schooled program approved by your school division superintendent.”

A. Yes, it is misleading and incorrect. Homeschoolers are not “approved” by the division superintendent. They are required to notify the superintendent and show they have complied with the law. Although HEAV has requested the DMV use language that is consistent with the law, they have made no changes to their website–we will contact them once again.

Yvonne
