2.1 Free Goochland Farms Tour – Goochland Area – September 15

Saturday, September 15, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free, self-guided tour will be held at six unique agribusiness sites open to the public for the day.
Operators will make presentations on the hour and the half-hour. See the website for details on the optional lunch; RSVP as instructed by September 13 for lunch.

These tours are great family fun and educational too. This year’s tour includes a dairy farm with 750 cows, a beef cattle farm, two horse farms, an alpaca farm, and a country Farmer’s Market full of local produce. Help spread the word!

2.2 Henricus 1611 Publick Days - Chester – September 15 and 16

Saturday and Sunday, September 15 and 16, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free admission, but there is a $5/vehicle parking fee. Craft activities are extra. Food vendors will be on site. If you wish, bring a picnic to enjoy in the small picnic area next to the parking lot. As there are only a few tables, you may wish to bring a blanket or other seating.

The park’s largest and most popular annual event is its annual celebration of the 1611 founding of the Citie of Henricus. Experience the past as 400 years of history come to life with living history re-enactments, military drills and musket firings, craftsmen and blacksmiths, 17th-century medicinal demonstrations, Virginia Indian activities, historical children’s games and crafts, storytelling, and more!

2.3 Free2BMe After School Club – Richmond – Ongoing

Monday through Friday, from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Cost: $145/child (ages 10 and up). Bring a snack–and a positive attitude.

Free2BMe After School Club, a secular program, is a place where kids with autism and their neurotypical peers can experience different activities in a social setting. There will be a variety of activities available including art, music, science, sports, and homework help. Sponsors are partnering with community organizations such as the School for Performing Arts Richmond Community to provide a fun place where kids can be kids.

2.4 Rain Barrel Workshop – Newport News – Register by September 21

Saturday, September 22, 2012; select either the 11 a.m. to noon session, or the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. session. Cost: $40; space is quite limited for this very popular workshop. All children must be closely supervised and old enough to be safe around sharp tools and materials. Register by 5 p.m. on Friday, September 21.

This great workshop for young and old will be held at the Go Green Expo. Learn how much rainfall is wasted from your roof run-off. Discover how to capture and use it in your garden, and assemble a 55-gallon rain barrel you can carry home!
