Howard Douthit Memorial Scholarship

This $4,000 scholarship is given by Ramona Douthit and her three sons in memory of Howard Douthit, a homeschooling father for 17 years who was passionate about helping students impact their world for Christ.

Howard believed it was essential for homeschooled students to carry their faith onto the university campus. He helped change the admission policies at Old Dominion University to allow direct acceptance of home-educated students. Howard served T.E.A.C.H. as president, coached youth baseball, and was an amazing servant-leader.

A retired USAF major, Howard was the director of the 911 center for the city of Norfolk and an ordained pastor serving as a pastor to young singles. He had a deep love for his family, and his sons were the joy of his life.

Howard battled stomach cancer for three years. Despite the pain and difficulties he endured, he continued to impress upon others the love and goodness of God regardless of circumstances. Howard went home to Heaven in 2008, and he was interred at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.

DONATIONS

Donations to the Howard Douthit Memorial Scholarship are welcome. The Douthit family has committed $4,000 over a four-year period to one homeschool graduate. HEAV and the Douthit’s would like to offer this scholarship each year to a deserving homeschool graduate. We want to help a student fulfill the calling on his or her life. In order to do this, we must raise $4,000 each year. We have $500 toward this goal for a second scholarship.
If you would like to make a tax-exempt gift to the Howard Douthit Memorial Scholarship fund to help a Christian homeschool student impact the university campus, please click here and choose the Howard Douthit Memorial Scholarship fund.
